Sonic Signature of the Array 2.1 with 805 driven by the 300B

The 805's allows for a spatially big, with pleasantly full bass and midbass. String bass, electric bass, orchestral drums, and the like have greater than average weight, yet with no apparent penalty in note timing. The 805s add more richness than usual to the sounds of those and other instruments

The spatial presentation is noticeably larger than usual, with all the instruments spread out, more realistically, with a very wide stage. Yet the scales remain in tact and its tone and texture can be called very pretty.

The 805's allow for an abundant of textural detail, the physical presence of solo instruments and voices, with superb timing and flow

The 300b adds tonal balance, timbre fidelity and harmonic purity and are exceptionally natural and organic,

Its impression of a layered soundstage is fully lit.

Using this configuration of tubes allows for the best of both worlds. Some have said that the Array 2.1 is a 300B tube amplifier on steroids.

The JAS Array 2.1 seeks to be the best of both worlds. The purity, immediacy and low-level detail retrieval of micro power SETs with the greater output power and speaker compatibility of push-pull designs. This is accomplished by utilizing a big radio transmitter tube, the 805 and uses the 300B to drive a large 805 power triode. The 805 provides the juice while the 300B offers its midrange magic.

The Array 2.1 is a dual mono single-ended Class A design with separate power and output transformers for each channel. Two 300B triodes drive a pair of 805 triodes for a whopping 45 watts of SET power. The front panel sports volume control and source selection for four inputs. The rear has 4 and 8-ohm speaker outputs, gold-plated source RCA inputs plus a pair of pre-ins for power-direct operation. Rear-mounted toggle switches out the line stage so the 2.1 can run as a straight power amp. Build quality is exceptional

The Array 2.1 offers single-ended harmonic purity, transparency and immediacy. Music playback sounds like musicians playing music. Once heard you will understand why many audiophiles just cannot go back to push-pull.

The 300B driver tubes give the Array 2.1 a warmish, silky midrange with plenty of texture, and a way of presenting voices and instruments whole and full

We use the Array with Usher Audio floor standers and Mark and Daniels Maximus Monitors and it has no problem driving them.
